Annual Income Tax Return Filing (2025 Income Tax Filing Deadline=4/15/2026)

Annual Income Tax Return Filing

International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS)

2025 U.S. Income Tax Filing deadline is April 15, 2026.

START HERE: Form 8843

All non-resident [NRA] students, scholars and their dependents in F-1, F-2, J-1 or J-2 status must file Form 8843 "Statement for Exempt Individuals and Individuals with a Medical Condition". This form must be filed even if no income was earned in 2025.

Please note: If you were a Non-Resident Alien and were physically present in the U.S. at any point during 2025, but earned/received NO U.S. income during 2025, you ONLY need to file Form 8843.  A tipsheet guide to downloading and preparing the 8843 is linked here. Once you have completed and mailed Form 8843, your 2025 filing obligation is COMPLETE. You do not need to proceed further.

For others who DID earn U.S. income during 2025, continue reading. Form 8843 will be completed when you use Sprintax-Returns to complete your 2025 U.S. federal income tax return.

  • Be prepared for your appointment - have your tax documents in hand, be specific on what needs clarification, make the most of your appointment time by doing all pre-work possible.
