About ISSS
International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), under the Office of Global Engagement, serves as a central resource to Brown University's international students, scholars, faculty, researchers and their families. Our main roles include:
- Providing immigration and visa document services for our non-immigrant international students, scholars, employees and their dependents
- Advising international community members on relevant immigration rules, regulations, and policies applicable to their specific immigration status
- Monitoring any applicable changes to federal rules and regulations relating to non-immigrant visas
- Supporting the orientation, adjustment, and ongoing success of our students and scholars.
Our team is committed to providing the best possible service we can to support the successful arrival, orientation, and academic and professional success of all of our international community members.

Advising is generally done by appointment only. To set up an individual appointment with a student/scholar advisor, please select an applicable link below, or email.
Newly Admitted International Students: For questions regarding immigration document issuance, please email isss@brown.edu. Admitted students will be contacted once the I-20 issuance process begins. Please refrain from booking appointments regarding initial I-20 issuance.
Current Students can book advising appointments online:
PhD students and Visiting Research Fellows (VRFs)
Scholars (Postdocs, Visiting Scholars, Scientists, Professors, etc., as well as J-1 Student Interns) can e-mail Laura Beth Montague or ISSS to set up a mutually convenient advising appointment via phone or Zoom.
