Change of Address Notification Requirement
Updating Your U.S. Address Information
Under U.S. immigration regulations, all nonimmigrant students and scholars are required to update the U.S. government of any change to their U.S. address, within 10 days of the change taking place.
Failure to update your U.S. address as required may lead to future delays in U.S. government processing of applications benefits or other kinds of legal penalties.
In many cases, ISSS will be able to make the change of address notification on your behalf. See below for instructions on how to provide that update to ISSS. If you have any questions, contact ISSS at isss@brown.edu.
- F-1 and J-1 students: Update the Local (LO) residential address in your Banner Self Service account. After adding or changing the Local (LO) residential address, and/or your (CELL) phone address fields, in your Brown Banner Self Service record, the data will be transmitted directly into your ISSS Gateway portal, and ISSS will upload the information into your F-1 / J-1 SEVIS record on your behalf.
- F-1 Students on Post-Completion OPT: Log into your SEVP portal account directly to update your residential address.
- J-1 Students on Post-Completion Academic Training: Submit a completed Address Update form to ISSS. ISSS will update your SEVIS record upon receipt of your form.
- J-1 Scholars: Submit a completed Address Update form; ISSS will update your SEVIS record upon receipt of your form.
- H-1B, E-3, O-1 and others non-immigrant visas: Submit completed Address Update form to ISSS and also complete and submit USCIS Form AR-11 (online or paper version) directly to USCIS.
