Form 8843 - General Information

- Form 8843 should be completed by any F-1, J-1, F-2, or J-2 visa holder who was physically present in the U.S. at any time during the 2025 tax year (January 1 - December 31, 2025)
- Form 8843 is not a tax document, but is used by the Internal Revenue Service to collect information about your physical presence and activity in the U.S. for tax purposes
- Do not complete the form if you were a tax resident during 2025; it should only be completed by those in F or J status who were nonresidents for the tax year
- The form should be completed even if you had no U.S. income during the tax year

- Taxpayer identification number - your SSN or ITIN, if available (a TIN is not required)

- Complete all questions as they applied to you during 2025
- If you need to calculate your days of presence in the U.S., you can look at your U.S. travel history by going to https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov and select “View Travel History”

Part III - Students (to be completed by F-1 or J-1 students and their dependents only)
