Cost of Attendance and Financial Requirements
Understand the Financial Requirements for Your Visa
Financial Requirements for Student Visa Holders
One of the most important requirements for international students is to have enough financial reserves to cover the cost of attendance while working toward your degree or academic objective. There are different reasons for this:
- Being able to show that you have sufficient resources and a realistic plan to pay for your education is critical to the success of your visa application. You may be found ineligible for your visa if the visa officer does not believe you will be able to finance your education after you come to the U.S.
- Without adequate financial planning, you may experience economic hardship that will impact your ability to study and to complete your program on time.
Estimated Cost of Attendance
An initial step in your financial planning process is to review the estimated Cost of Attendance for your program.
- Read through the Cost of Attendance figures for your program, including undergraduate students, master's students, and MFA / PhD students
- Consider additional expenses for individual travel or medical needs, family expenses (if applicable), or special program fees
