As reported by various media outlets, the U.S. State Department has announced a temporary worldwide pause on immigrant visa appointments while consular officers undergo staff training regarding new public charge rules. 

Please note: this announcement applies to immigrant visa appointments, in contrast to non-immigrant visas. Immigrant visas are issued to individuals intending to travel to the U.S. as permanent residents of the United States. Non-immigrant visas, such as F-1, J-1, or H-1B visas, are not included in this announcement.
