I-20 or DS-2019 Record Requests (Alumni / Former Students Only)

Instructions

FOR ALUMNI OR FORMER STUDENTS ONLY: Students in F-1 or J-1 status are responsible for keeping any and all immigration documents they received, including Form I-20(s) or DS-2019(s).

If you are a Brown alum or previously attended Brown, and are missing a copy of a previously issued Form I-20 or DS-2019, you may submit a request to ISSS for a file copy. ISSS will review the request and provide you with any copies that we may have. Please read the restrictions below.

Restrictions
  • ISSS does not retain copies of all previously issued I-20s or DS-2019s, as we are required only to keep the underlying SEVIS information. However, we will provide any available copies requested.
  • Only copies of Form I-20 or Form DS-2019 may be requested. We are unable to produce copies of passports, visas, work permits (EAD cards), etc.
  • We are unable to provide copies of documents issued by other schools, colleges, and universities.
  • For evidence of past enrollment and/or degree completion, such as a transcript, consult the Office of the Registrar
  • To submit a request, you must be able to provide your SEVIS ID number (N000xxxxxxx). This can usually be found in the annotation section of a previously issued F-1 or J-1 visa.
  • In general, documents are retained only for five years past the end of your F-1 or J-1 status with Brown.
  • File copies (copies retained for record-keeping purposes) of I-20s and DS-2019s are usually unsigned, and cannot be signed retroactively.
Processing Time
  • All requests take a minimum of five to seven business days for a response. We are unable to expedite requests or produce documents on demand.
  • You will receive an email once the request has been reviewed and processed. Documents will be delivered via a link to a secure Google folder.
